UK CONSTRUCTION WEEK BIRMINGHAM LAUNCHES ‘RESET’ - NOW IT’S TIME TO DELIVER
“We’ve reset the construction industry - now it’s time to deliver” - that was the clear message from organisers of UK Construction Week Birmingham, the national platform for construction (September 29 to October 1), where contractors, builders, manufacturers, project managers and developers came together for three days of debate, insight and networking.
With three quarters of the UK’s top 20 construction companies attending - including representatives from Mace, Kier, Persimmon Homes, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall, AtkinsRéalis, Berkeley Homes and Barratt Redrow - UK Construction Week Birmingham was centred around three core themes - Building Better, Building Smarter and Building Responsibly.
Sponsored by Barbour ABI, Wyre, HotelPlanner, Zutec, Build Warranty and SolarEdge, UKCW Birmingham’s refreshed programme brought together industry leaders, policymakers, clients, contractors, manufacturers and innovators.
Key highlights included:
- The new Construction RESET Stage hosted a Who’s Who of thought leaders and experts including Saul Humphrey, President, Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB); Rachael Owens – Co-Director, National Retrofit Hub; and Jackie Rigby, Assistant Director - Regeneration, Partnerships and Major Projects, Homes England
- Shining a spotlight on the unsung heroes and talented professionals in the construction industry, the Role Models Campaign, now in its ninth year, announced its three worthy winners:
- Rising Star: Tobi Owoeye – for strong project delivery and supporting over 100 students to help them progress in the industry.
- Pioneer: Ashley Crawford, MRICS, MCIOB – for improving retrofit assessments and coordination strategies across more than 40,000 projects.
- Icon: Mina Hasman OBE – for advancing climate literacy, net-zero standards, and sustainability work reaching hundreds of thousands of professionals globally. She commented: “I'm truly honoured and humbled to receive this award. The word icon is a powerful one, but for me it's not about recognition or looking back at what one person has achieved; it's about legacy, what we leave behind, the difference we make, and the people we inspire to carry things forward.
“I don't believe legacy is ever created alone. It comes through collective action, through people coming together, challenging the status quo, opening doors, and having the courage to make a difference, so I accept this award not just for what has been achieved, but for what we can still achieve together, and for the next generation who will build the future.”
- New for Birmingham 2027, the Futurebuild Innovation Showcase was a curated showcase connecting the built environment’s most innovative products, technologies and solutions with the buyers, specifiers and decision-makers
- Networking opportunities galore, including the busy Build Connect Lounge, a dedicated, informal networking space for industry professionals, and the popular Construction & Supply Chain Exchange Pavilion in partnership with Find It In Birmingham - which featured expert advice from West Midlands Combined Authority, Morgan Sindall, Sisk, and Galliford Try
- The winning exhibitors for this year’s Stand Awards were announced, and included:
Martin Hurn, UKCW Birmingham Editorial Director, said: “The feedback from visitors to the Construction Reset theme has been fantastic, with many agreeing that it’s vital that we now listen, collaborate and then deliver on the great conversations we’ve had at this year’s show.
“The Construction Reset has shown that UK Construction Week Birmingham is the national platform where construction comes together to understand what is changing, discover the solutions, drive progress and do business with the people delivering it.”
UKCW Birmingham returns to the NEC from 28-30 September 2027 with a new message: ‘The Construction Reset: Now we deliver it’.
